In the mids, Dee Snider and his Twisted Sister bandmates claimed glitter rock for their own, cross-dressing their way to headlining every club within miles of New York City, from New Jersey bowling alleys to Long Island beach bars. With gigs six nights a week, they were the most successful live bar band of suburban New York, selling out 5,seat shows fueled by their no-holds-barred stage presence and aggressive metal setlists. But by the early 80s, they found themselves balancing on a double-edged sword, hugely popular with local audiences but without a national following or a record deal to speak of. When Twisted Sister finally got their big break in , they d go on to become one of the biggest glam rock bands of the decade, their over-the-top live shows drawing sell-out crowds and their music videos defining an early MTV network.
This documentary that aired in is finally turned into a physical edition and handles the period of the creation of the band right until they landed their first major record deal. We were quite stoked to see the adventure of this band that defied all odds, slammed into many brick walls and simply seemed like a story that would never get its fairytale rock-and-roll ending. This documentary starts at the origin of this twisted adventure, namely in where the idea of Twisted Sister was born due to the influence of Glam Rock. Of course, while some considered them to be part of the so called Glitter Rock genre, the robust singer and musicians begged to differ. That being said, they were either loved by the public that was into something different or they were hated and considered trash by others.
