Learning disability and dyslexia testing, sometimes referred to as an educational evaluation, is essential for diagnosing learning problems, developing academic plans and obtaining academic accommodations. Importantly, learning disorders are known to be the result of differences in the structure and functioning of the brain, and are not the result of low intelligence or laziness. In fact, those with learning disorders have normal intelligence and often work very hard to perform well academically. Adult dyslexia and learning disability diagnoses are becoming more common.
Where can I go for low cost or free evaluation services?
Adult Learning Evaluation Center (ALEC) | College of Education - FSU
I am an adult with learning disabilities. Where can I go for low cost or free evaluation services? Here is a link to an information page about individuals who have LD and need diagnosis, but are searching for low cost evaluation services. There is a section on TANF recipients which includes other state aid opportunities. Another option is to see if you qualify for Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
ALEC also provides ADHD coaching services to assist students in achieving their goals by developing skills and strategies to compensate for areas of functioning affected by ADHD or poorly developed study skills. We are located in Room of the Stone Building. It is closed during certain holidays, and generally when FSU is closed. For more information, contact or e-mail us.
