Through our broadcast, interactive and engagement programs, we've has nurtured generations of independent mediamakers with direct funding, mentorship, editorial support and national distribution and engagement strategies. In addition, we provide year-round support for the field through artist-centered programs that include filmmaker funds and talent incubation initiatives. The ways in which a story can be told is expanding, and digital and emerging media can communicate current realities and new possibilities. Yet existing barriers to resources and support limits who can create and experiment with new tools, technology, and mediums. The three-month residency supports artists from Africa and its diaspora engaged in political and social issues to explore new forms of expression. It's an invaluable setting for collaboration across geographic borders and areas of discipline.
Since , POV has presented over films to public television audiences across the country. POV films are known for their intimacy, their unforgettable storytelling and their timeliness, putting a human face on contemporary social issues. In addition, POV works with thousands of educators and community groups, reaching over 15, people directly. More than programs are submitted for consideration each year. The films undergo a rigorous review process involving independent media professionals, public television station programmers and PBS.
