My most enduring memory of the previous God of War games is an uncomfortable university gaming session, wherein I sat amongst a group of men, watching a half-naked Aphrodite seduce Kratos. Aphrodite writhed atop the mattress. The reviews for God of War 3 had been complimentary across the board. It was the latest big thing, a well-executed, highly-anticipated release in a much-loved franchise. If your opinions on games were worth listening to at all, God of War 3 could do no wrong.
Hey Everybody, It's the God of War III Sex Scene! *NSFW*
Aphrodite's Handmaidens are the servants of the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite. When Kratos first encounters Aphrodite, she is seen fondling and making out with her handmaidens. After a brief conversation with Kratos, Aphrodite dispatches them, seducing Kratos into having sex with her. Aphrodite's handmaidens appear topless and totally uncensored in the game as well as Aphrodite herself who also appears topless in her chamber when you play a sex minigame with her. If Kratos returns to the chamber from the Hyperion Gate the two handmaidens are seen again on Aphrodite's bed leaning towards her, but will go away again giggling.
How games like God of War herald a new era of adult-orientated gaming
In the God of War games of the 00s, Kratos was on a never-ending, gore-soaked vengeance mission against the Greek pantheon, ripping apart gods and beasts, engaging in mortifyingly puerile sex scenes in which he remained completely silent. In this new God of War he is older, bearded, gruff, humourless and oddly pitiable, struggling to connect with his young son Atreus. In order to get that change to ring true, especially with a character as quiet as Kratos, you need an external force.
So you kill the gods but you just fuck Aphrodite? Makes sense. If I was Kratos I'd do the same.
